Real-life case studies showing the extraordinary and unexpected ways our body wants to talk.
Three stories of how creative kinesiology can transform us through nutrition, free us from our mental chains, and generally open our minds to a new way of living.
Who Are We Really?
A couple of years back, I was invited to give a short talk in Bristol at the Dowsing Association.
The organisers wanted me to present a general overview of the origins and ethos of creative kinesiology, and to give an easily digestible breakdown of how it “works”.
I often find that a simple demonstration showing quick results has much more impact than trying to explain about the long history and science of the practice, so I invited volunteers from the audience to help me with some practical exercises.
At this particular talk, I wanted to showcase the ‘muscle testing’ technique and its seemingly magical powers for revealing our emotional and physical imbalances.
An elderly gentleman in the audience responded eagerly to my call for a volunteer, and as he walked from his chair to join me at the front of the room, I noticed he had slight difficulty walking. I was expecting to gain some good insights about him for the purposes of my demonstration.
He sat down beside me in front of the audience, and to begin with, I asked him to stretch his arms out in front of him. With both hands, I applied light pressure on his arms to check if he could offer some resistance and stop them from falling.
With muscle testing, I always ask the person a question to test where the body holds resistance. I usually begin by asking them something neutral like ‘what is your name?’ as the body generally identifies strongly with the response and so the arms resist my pressure well.
However, this time, it was different. The man in front of me spoke his name out loud and lost all strength. Every time I pressed on his arms, they gave way beneath my weight.
I noticed that he felt uncomfortable, so I asked if he had a nick name he preferred to use; he told me he didn’t. I paused; a high emotional energy surrounded him and I didn’t want to upset him.
After a moment’s reflection, I quietly asked if there was another name he identified with and told him there was no need to say the name out loud.
After a short hesitation, the man looked straight at me and said that it was time to speak up; he knew he had come to my talk for a reason. Then, in a loud, clear voice, he gave me a woman’s name, and once again held his arms up for me to test.
I placed my hands on his arms as before, and this time, they held firm against my pressure.
This man had been hiding his true identity for all of his life, and that day, in front of a room full of strangers, he revealed the secret that had long been so painful for him.
I won’t go into more detail here, but this beautiful moment showcases perfectly the lengths we will often go to force ourselves to exist while detached from our true, authentic selves, and the consequences this can have on our emotional, mental, spiritual, or in this case, physical body.
We may have been walking out of alignment, bent, disjointed, or trying to fit in with who we think we are, but our soul’s path never leaves us. It is always right next to us, waiting for us to notice.
It is never too late to connect with who we really are; for various reasons, it has taken me a long time to make this journey, and in our fast paced world with high expectations, the distractions that keep us from learning about ourselves are many, and can keep us on the wrong track for a long time..
Testing Intolerances
The food we put into our bodies can be restricting our potential too.
Fast and processed foods are everywhere; they weaken our systems, cause IBS, intolerances, allergies, tiredness, autoimmune disorders, and so much more.
During another talk I was giving in Taunton, I wanted to demonstrate the powers of muscle testing again, but this time for revealing food intolerances.
Several audience members were willing guinea pigs, but as they sat at the front, I could sense their scepticism. I knew their motives were more to ‘catch me out’ and to prove that muscle testing was a load of fake nonsense than to gain valuable information. I am happy to say, I changed their minds.
I handed out biscuits and slices of cakes for the people to hold while I tested them for imbalances. Several of them showed reactions to the food products, and after several rounds of testing and elimination, I was able to reveal intolerances to dairy, processed sugars and wheat flour. The audience was shocked by how accurately I could determine these imbalances simply by showing that their arms couldn’t hold up a slice of cake!
The volunteers themselves were also gobsmacked; they had come onto the stage knowing about their intolerances and didn’t expect me to spot them.
What causes our adverse reactions to milk or wheat? Unfortunately, there is no easy answer, the causes can be different for each person.
Hidden emotional stressors can also throw us out of balance, when we are seemingly healthy and life is good, causing permanent low level anxiety, dissatisfaction or depression.
Physical injuries can cause untold pain and lead to chronic conditions, and we may end up out of balance spiritually, if we neglect our soul’s purpose, for example, and we may even be victims of ancestral trauma without realising it. Many of us carry the pain of our parents or grandparents, which can lead to all sorts of emotional suffering that can seem completely illogical and be hard to treat.
We are sensitive beings, and all of these stressors can cause dis-ease in our body: mis-alignments, blockages, switch-offs, and freezes, but with creative kinesiology, there is a way back to wholeness and balance.
The Nervous System, and The Vagus Nerve
In the human body, everything is connected; the physical, emotional and spiritual.
Some chronic conditions can be horrifically debilitating, and yet can also have such simple cures when pinpointed for what they are with accuracy.
Many times, a particularly traumatic event can trigger a range of what look like unrelated reactions in the body, and we could spend a life time of stress trying to eliminate the symptoms while missing the cause altogether.
This was the case with a six year old girl I worked with a few years ago who had a dairy intolerance that was causing her a lot of upset.
I invited both the mum and the daughter in for a healing session. The mum explained to me that her birth had been highly traumatic, with both of them nearly losing their lives.
As I worked with both of them, it became apparent that the daughter’s intolerances were a direct result of her nervous system being stuck in fight/flight mode from her traumatic entry into the world, six years earlier.
The mum, who had also suffered major trauma, was also trapped in a subconsciously fearful and over protective mode of her daughter which was affecting them both.
After only session with me, the young girl’s dairy intolerance disappeared, and macaroni cheese became her favourite food!
Most of us aren’t even aware when we still hold onto old traumas. Some parts of us are still in freeze, shut away until we learn to listen to ongoing ‘symptoms’ like permanent tiredness, difficulty in taking part in life, or not being able to speak up for ourselves. These are all ways in which the body might have been trying to tell us for a long time that trauma is still present.
The body has many stories to tell, and with modern medicine, those stories may never be heard. Creative kinesiology is a gentle way to explore our inner workings and free ourselves from chains we don’t even know we are under.
